Signing Up for the Training Modules
In order to access the modules, you must first sign up for the bundle through GoSignMeUp (GSMU) at https://nvcc.gosignmeup.com, select Human Resources from the left menu option, select Training, then click “NOVA 2022 Employee Mandatory Training” to register. You do not need to sign up for each module individually. You will receive a confirmation email upon successful registration. You’ll then be able to view and access the bundle in Canvas. All nine training modules are available in Canvas (https://learn.vccs.edu), listed under the “NOVA 2022 Employee Mandatory Training” bundle.
Please review the step-by-step instructions at http://tiny.cc/novagosignmeup should you have questions regarding the registration process. For additional assistance with GSMU, please contact edtechhelp@nvcc.edu.
Accessing the Training Modules in Canvas
After you have registered for the bundle through GSMU, you can access the modules in Canvas (https://learn.vccs.edu). Once you have logged in to Canvas, click on the Courses icon from the left navigation bar, select the “NOVA 2022 Employee Mandatory Training” course, then you should see the above nine modules listed under the bundle. Access the content one at a time, please ensure you view the content in its entirety.
These modules should be completed during your regularly scheduled working hours. Please discuss with your supervisor if you have competing priorities that will impact timely completion. If you have any questions about the content or deadline, please discuss with your supervisor.
Confirming Your Completion
We do not track completion for each individual module in Canvas, please manually track your progress if you do not finish all the modules in one sitting. Only the Final Acknowledgement completion will appear on your Canvas grade report. Additionally, not all modules have a quiz at the end.
Upon completing your required training module(s), please complete the Final Acknowledgement module to confirm your completion. This step confirms your completion of the nine modules and must be completed in order for you to receive credit as meeting this year’s training requirements. Please select the Grades menu option in Canvas to ensure the Final Acknowledgment module is listed as complete (100/100% score).
It is important that you review the content and understand your expectations as a Commonwealth of Virginia employee, as you will be held accountable for failure to adhere to the policies, procedures, guidelines, and other relevant expectations as outlined in the training.
You do not need to confirm your completion with Human Resources or send HR your training records. Please review the above-mentioned steps to confirm your completion.
Deadline for Completion of all Mandatory Training Modules: December 23, 2022
Please do not wait until the final week to complete the training modules in the event that you experience system issues or an unexpected leave of absence. This will allow us to assist you in a timely manner. FAQs are attached for your reference.
Recent Hires
Employees who started at NOVA between January-July 2022 were assigned the required training modules under a separate course in Canvas upon hire. New and updated modules have been added to the required training list. Please ensure that you complete all the required modules based on the current list for this year. Please refer to the attached FAQs for additional information.
Supervisors and Managers
Please monitor the training progress of your direct report(s) and ensure that the mandatory trainings are completed by December 23, 2022. Additional mandatory trainings may be required based on an employee’s role and responsibilities, to be determined by the supervisor. We recommend you ask your employees to provide you with their Grades report from Canvas to confirm their completion.
As a reminder, employees must complete the Final Acknowledgement module to confirm their completion for this year’s training requirements.
Training records do not need to be sent to Human Resources. Any modifications to the deadline would be approved through the supervisor.
Please email hrlearn@nvcc.edu for assistance if you run into difficulty and provide the steps above that are not working for you. As mentioned above, please email canvashelp@nvcc.edu if you have issues with Canvas.
We appreciate your attention to these modules and your help keeping NOVA in compliance!
