Employee Wellness and Wellbeing Office Wishes You a Happy New Year

January 6, 2023 / Get Well

Happy New Year and welcome back from what I hope was a rejuvenating period for each of you. The students are ready to get going again, and our January to-lists have been activated. I look forward to continuing to work with such a great group of professionals who show up ready to serve and guide each student on their path to wholeness,  academic success and prosperity. Our purposeful work enhances their roles as contributing members of our community. We make an impact.

First steps first though, let’s take a “pause” to see how we are doing as members of this caring community. The work we do yearly, monthly, and daily is essential, but it can take a toll.  Self-checks are vital for our overall wellbeing, and we encourage you to practice taking these purposeful pauses throughout the new year.

The NOVA Employee Wellness and Wellbeing Office is excited to continue efforts to address the full range of wellness needs for each team member. Although, this academic year’s focus for the Wellness Office is needs assessment and capacity building, we have already begun collaborating to connect the community to the need by building bridges and better connecting employees to services, service providers, existing partners and programs. During this spring semester, you may anticipate the continuation of these experiences included in the 2022 close out message: Wellness a Journey, Not a Destination. Do take a minute to revisit the message and to reply to the interest survey.

Colleagues have asked, and the Wellness Office is developing tools and resources in response to your spring requests.  We look forward to introducing new and enhanced experiences such as:

  •  An increased focus on emotional wellbeing and nutrition. The relaunch and expansion of the Monday Campaign will now incorporate  DeStress Monday and Meatless Monday messages. Also, keep an eye on your email and/or Daily Flyer announcements for the upcoming Hydrate/ Water Campaign;
  •  New learning opportunities on trending wellness and wellbeing topics;
  • Regular updates to the Office’s Employee Wellness and Wellbeing Related Resources;
  • And More! Your suggestions and thoughts are valuable.  I would love to continue to hear from you as we work collaboratively to identify and address NOVA’s current challenges and opportunities while celebrating successes related to employee wellness.  Send me a note at DHTett@nvcc.edu.
