January 12, 2023 / Tech Notes & Training

Check out the NOVA Canvas & Educational Technology Support Services team Virtual Open House sessions. This is a great opportunity to gain helpful tools and information before you’re inundated in the new term.

Today’s Sessions:

Using Canvas for Performance Based Courses, 8 a.m. until 9 a.m.
In this session we’ll cover how to set up Appointment Groups in Canvas to schedule auditions, presentations, performances, and more. We’ll focus on utilizing Modules for embedding media and creating discussions and peer reviews. You’ll learn how you can use your Google Drive to embed content and create student collaborations. We’ll show how you can use Canvas Studio to share content as an instructor and how to have students share their presentations via Canvas Studio, also. And before we wrap up, we’ll touch briefly on Folio, an ePortfolio option available in Canvas.

Micro-credentials in Canvas, 12 p.m. until 1 p.m.
Getting Started with Canvas Badges (aka Badgr) is a session devoted to learning how the Canvas Badges can be used in courses to award badges to students. We will outline the steps to creating and connecting your Canvas Badges/Badgr account, setting up badges in a course, awarding badges, and tracking student progress.

Communicating with Students in Canvas, 5 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Canvas has many built-in tools to keep you and your students connected. This session will review frequently used and some overlooked Communication Tools available to you in Canvas.  Join us to get your Profile and Notifications set up; review and utilize the Announcements, Canvas Inbox and Q&A Discussions; learn how to message students using Gradebook and New Analytics and lastly make best use of Qwickly Attendance automatic emails and Qwickly Course Tools to keep automatic and simplify certain tasks.

No Registration Needed! All sessions are in the same Zoom room: https://vccs.zoom.us/j/87340681070
