National Day of Racial Healing Event, Today at 12

January 17, 2023 / Events

Today is National Day of Racial Healing, a day to come together and connect based on our common humanity. It’s hard to talk about, but racism has affected each of us in different ways, both individually and collectively. Historically, our society has been significantly impacted by inequities and injustices that continue to morph and manifest in unique ways today. We all need healing to move forward as human beings. Healing is an ongoing process of restoring wholeness, repairing the damage caused by racism. Healing also facilitates trust and builds more authentic relationships with those around us.

In order to honor this day, the Office of DEI invites all NOVA faculty, staff and students to learn more about the healing circle program. There’s nothing magical or mystical about a healing circle. It’s just a group of folks with different identities coming together to share stories and connect to each other as human beings. Listening to the experiences of others helps push back on assumptions or biases we may have about other people.

Today from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m., please join us for this imporant webinar to learn more about the Healing Circle program at NOVA and our role as a Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Campus Center. You’ll learn what to expect in a circle and how NOVA’s facilitators have experienced the process. Please come with all your questions, no matter how challenging! We can work through them together. You can also see our Frequently Asked Questions here.

Register for the Healing Circle Info Session here.

**Please note: The event on Jan. 17 is NOT a Healing Circle, but an info session about the Healing Circle program. If you have questions or need accommodations, please contact Sherrene in the Office of DEI, sdelong@nvcc.edu.
