Greetings from NOVA’s Testing Centers!
NOVA Testing Center staff welcomes you back for Spring 2023. Here are the services we are continuing to offer, both in-person and online, for you and your students.
Faculty-Referred Tests
Faculty can submit requests for in-person or remote proctoring. Proctoring services are generally for makeups and students with accommodations or for faculty-approved students objecting to Respondus Monitor.
- If classes are taught fully in-person, faculty should submit student proctoring requests to the testing center on the same campus where the class is held. If classes are fully remote, requests can be made for remote student proctoring via Zoom. With other class modalities, the guideline is that a student should be proctored in the same general way that the class took the exam. For students with accommodations, some exceptions may be made in order for their accommodations to be appropriately met.
- Please submit requests well in advance of the testing date, and midterms and finals require more advanced notice. This lead time allows for processing requests and arranging appointments, which is especially needed for Zoom proctoring requests.
- Testing Services does not provide proctoring services for entire classes.
- Proctoring requests can be submitted using the Proctor Request Form and this form is also linked on the Campus Testing Centers
VPT English and Math Placement Tests – only select student populations
- These populations include military students using VA or TA benefits, or dual enrollment students without other placement measures. Students who have not completed high school or a GED must take either the VPT for English or the English Placement for Multilingual Learners, which is for students whose primary language is not English, and the VPT for math.
- VPT tests are only given in-person.
- Students can email novatesting@nvcc.edu or the campus testing center closest to them for more information or to make an appointment.
NAS 2 Placement Test
- This test is one of the options for students to satisfy the BIO 141 prerequisite. The test is only given in-person.
- Students can email novatesting@nvcc.edu or the campus testing center closest to them for more information or to make an appointment.
Appointments are preferred although walk-in testing is still available for students.
Students can continue to request the remote tests by e-mailing novatesting@nvcc.edu:
- SDV ABLE
- World Language Placement
- ESL Placement
Our hours for Spring 2023 are:
- Monday & Thursday 10:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Tuesday & Wednesday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Friday 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Most exams have required or recommended time limits and testing is stopped 15 minutes prior to closing, so students should plan accordingly in order to have enough time to complete their tests.
Please note that not included in this general information are a few campus-specific exams and that slight variations may occur due to the fluidity of policies, procedures, and staffing.
More information can be found on the Campus Testing Centers homepage. If you have questions, contact us at NOVATesting@nvcc.edu.
