Dr. Dali Tan to Present a Best Practice Webinar, Feb. 17
NOVA Online, in collaboration with NOVA’s amazing faculty across different campuses and divisions, offers college-wide webinars to promote best practices in teaching online , hybrid and remote courses at NOVA. This on-going program intends to better support faculty for teaching online after they complete the hybrid certification course and the NOL certification course.
Dr. Dali Tan will present “Effective Instructional Activities to Create a Strong Learning Community and Motivation in Online and Remote Courses.” This webinar will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m.
Dr. Tan, a professor of Chinese at Alexandria Campus, serves as World Languages Discipline Group Chair at NOVA. She has been a Chinese teacher in the United States for almost three decades. Dr. Tan has extensive experience teaching Chinese to students from 5th grade through the college level. She served as a board member of Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (NECTFL). She was director for the NOVA STARTALK eTower Infrastructure Grant Project, which has produced several open educational resource modules based on a famous Chinese painting called “Along the River during the Qingming Festival.” Tan was the 2003 recipient of the Teacher Recognition Award issued by the U.S. Department of Education; the 2021 Foreign Language Association of Virginia (FLAVA) Teacher of the Year award and the 2022 Virginia World Language Teacher of the Year Award from Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT). Dr. Tan’s research and academic articles have been published in China, Canada, Great Britain and the United States.
