ACCP to Host Workshop on Accepting Yourself Where and As You Are, Feb. 17
Parker Palmer’s book The Courage to Teach is, at its core, a volume about acceptance. It is about discovering “who is the self that teaches?” His central message, which he has spread to as many professionals outside the teaching profession as within it, is that exploring one’s inner landscape is the key to transforming one’s vocational experience.
Join us on Friday, February 17, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Annandale Campus in CM-332 for a workshop that builds upon this premise and suggests that accepting yourself where you are, as you are, is key to thriving within the workplace. We will explore what it means to face the truth of our own way of being (including preferences, strengths, challenges and positionality) in the face of “best practice” trends and professional norms that may not be as “one-size-fits-all” as we have been led to believe.
Together, we’ll explore what it might look like to operate as members of a workplace who can lead with acceptance, stay curious about what emerges and develop paths forward through community-enriching strategy.
This workshop is supported by the NOVA Foundation and the office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion via a DEI InNOVAtion Grant. A vegetarian boxed lunch will be provided to all participants.
If you need accommodations to participate in this event, please send requests for accommodations to the hosts at accp@nvcc.edu as soon as possible.
