NOVA Forensics Team Wins Big And Prepares For Nationals!
The NOVA Forensics Team concluded its regular season with legendary performances in the month of February!
On February 17-18, the NOVA Forensics Team the team traveled to the Harper College Invitational in Chicago. Student performers Spencer Salusky and Caroline Castagna won Fifth Place in Dramatic Duo Interpretation. In addition, Spencer also won Third Place in Single Dramatic Interpretation and Caroline won Fifth Place in Single Dramatic Interpretation. In addition, Dhyuthi Chegu won a Bronze medal in Single Parliamentary Debate! It was a great showing at a very competitive tournament!
On February 24-26, the NOVA Forensics Team traveled to the Mount San Antonio College Invitational in Los Angeles. Once again, NOVA dominated the field, taking home First Place in Overall Limited Team Entry Sweepstakes! Spencer and Caroline won again, with a First Place in Dramatic Duo Interpretation. Spencer also won First Place in single Dramatic Interpretation and First Place in Prose Interpretation. Caroline won Second Place in single Dramatic Interpretation, and Dhyuthi Chegu won a Silver medal in Single Parliamentary Debate!
The next tournament will occur in Bethesda, Md., from April 10-15, when the NOVA Forensics Team will attend the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament! NOVA will also serve as the host school for the national tournament, which will draw more than 60 community colleges from the nation for a week of competition to determine the national champions in several public speaking, debate and literature performance events.
The NOVA Forensics Team is under the direction of Dr. Nathan Carter and is also co-directed and coached by Professor Amy Hileman (LO Campus) and Professor Jeremy Hodgson (AL Campus). Students on the team compete in various public speaking, debate and acting events. The team is sponsored by support from the College-wide Office of Student Life and a generous donation given through the NOVA Educational Foundation to support students interested in the NOVA Forensics Team and all the benefits of competitive public speaking, debate and literature performance.
