March 10, 2023 / General NOVA News

NOVA’s Office of DEI and Micron were proud to welcome the host of Afro-Latino Travels with Kim Haas (PBS) on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Alexandria Campus.

Haas is the executive producer, host and creator of Afro-Latino Travels with Kim Haas, a travel show on PBS that celebrates the African influence in Latin America. Haas’ travels have taken her to Venezuela, Cuba, Peru, Mexico and more, exploring their lived experiences and historic contributions to local art, food, music, dance and culture.

Dr. Annette Haggray, provost of NOVA’s Alexandria Campus, introduced Haas and offered thanks to the sponsors, students and the wider community. After watching a clip of Afro-Latino Travels, Dr. Martha Davis, professor of Spanish at the Alexandria Campus, interviewed Haas on a variety of topics, including language immersion, the value of travel, Kim’s personal career trajectory in T.V. production and more. Attendees were able to ask questions, leading to a robust conversation that inspired.
