VCCS Chancellor Doré Wants to Hear from You. Anonymous Survey Open Until March 22

March 16, 2023 / General NOVA News

As you may know, the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) is comprised of 23 individual colleges, including NOVA, that span the Commonwealth. It is led by a chancellor, and the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges recently announced Dr. Doré as the new VCCS chancellor. He comes to Virginia after roles in community colleges in California and Arizona, where he most recently served as an executive vice chancellor and president of the campuses at Pima Community College, and time as an instructor of management at St. Joseph’s University (Penn.). Dr. Doré has a great interest in supporting VCCS students and in providing system colleges and our dedicated faculty and staff with the resources they need to increase student success—whether this leads directly to employment or to university transfer.

Dr. Doré begins his tenure at the VCCS on April 3, 2023, and as part of the plan to help the new chancellor gain a better understanding of the system’s diverse and unique community colleges, VCCS has prepared a short survey that is being sent out to students, faculty, staff and community members by each institution. The survey asks for your thoughts about your college’s strengths, challenges and opportunities, and asks you to identify the external factors that you see impacting NOVA. The VCCS survey is truly very brief and should take just a few minutes.

Your input is important to Chancellor Doré, and I again encourage you to complete the survey here.

As you begin the survey, please select “Northern Virginia Community College” from the drop-down menu and indicate your employee category. Your responses are anonymous and will be used only to provide Chancellor Doré with a deeper understanding of the VCCS and to help him prioritize areas in which the system can partner with and support each of the 23 colleges and our students, faculty, staff and communities.

The survey will close on March 22. Thank you for making the time to provide Chancellor Doré with your thoughts!

Chancellor Doré will also be visiting all 23 system colleges. He is coming to NOVA on April 27 and 28, and my office is working with VCCS to plan the agenda for his visit. It will include time on several of our campuses to see some of our innovative programs in action and meetings with our students, faculty, staff, board members and community leaders. Look for more details on the Chancellor’s visit no later than April 4.
