Celebrate NOVA Libraries in April!
National Library Week is April 24-28, but we are celebrating the library for the entire month of April! Get to know NOVA Librarian Chrystie Greges at the Loudoun Campus library. Check out her National Library Week interview below to learn why everyone should love libraries.
Chrystie Greges: I’m a Librarian at NOVA’s Loudoun Campus Library, and I’ve also worked at the Manassas Campus. I’ve been at NOVA for more than 12 years. I’ve worked in academic, public, and arts libraries for almost 25 years. I’m Loudoun’s Collection Development Librarian, which means I work to select and maintain library resources to support the information needs of our campus community. I also work with other NOVA librarians to make collaborative decisions about shared online library resources for the College. NOVA librarians provide most other library services too, like research help for classes and individuals, lending library materials, and providing assistance to people in our library spaces and beyond. Beyond my work at NOVA, I’m a parent to an 8 year old, provide a life of leisure to a domestic cat, and love exploring arts and nature.
What makes you passionate about libraries?
The libraries I love the most are open to everyone, like NOVA Libraries. I hope that everyone feels like they belong here. I love that libraries exist to connect people to information and knowledge, and that library spaces and resources can be a sanctuary to learn, imagine, create, or rest. Not only have I made a career in libraries, but I’m also a lifelong library user myself and I love being in libraries and making use of their collections.
What is your favorite thing or story about working in the library?
My favorite thing about working in libraries are the people, especially the students and my colleagues. Students often come to libraries looking for answers to questions. I admire seekers and scholars. And people who work in libraries tend to enjoy being helpful, and in my experience are wonderful at their jobs, kind, and super smart! I always believe the library is a good place to start if you’re not sure where to ask a question. We’re here to help!
Why should everyone love libraries?
I think visiting a NOVA Library may answer this question better than I can explain, but mainly I hope that everyone loves libraries because your libraries love you. We are here to support you and believe in your potential to learn and grow. We want to give you access to the information you’re seeking.
