New Chancellor’s Busy First Week. Note His Visit to NOVA, April 27 and 28

April 5, 2023 / Tuesday Topics

Today’s topic is Chancellor Doré’s visit to NOVA.

I hope you had the chance on Monday to hear Chancellor Doré’s first day welcome in which he shared his collaborative and student-centered vision for how we can work together across the VCCS to continue to move Virginia forward. As he noted in his remarks and in the email sent yesterday morning, he will spend the rest of this month and part of May on the road, visiting all 23 VCCS colleges. Most of our colleague institutions will get half day visits, but because of our size, the Chancellor will spend two days—April 27 and 28—at NOVA.

I wanted to share the tentative schedule for his time with us (with the disclaimer that this timeline is subject to change). Chancellor Doré will have the opportunity to visit four of our six campuses and meet with students, faculty, staff, board members and industry partners throughout his stay. Our goal is to give the Chancellor a sense of the breadth and depth of NOVA’s innovative and impactful programs, and to introduce him to our talented faculty and staff, inspiring students and dedicated community supporters.

As the largest and most diverse provider of transfer students and workforce talent in the Commonwealth, home to award-winning faculty and staff and the college of choice for one-third of all VCCS students, we have a lot to share. So…

On Thursday, April 27, Chancellor Doré will have breakfast with our NOVA and Foundation boards before traveling to the Woodbridge Campus for a tour, followed by lunch with teaching faculty. He will spend the afternoon at our Medical Education Campus, touring our health programs and meeting with MEC students and hospital partners.

On Friday, April 28, he will have breakfast with members of our Administrative Council and student governments before touring the Annandale Campus. He will then visit the Manassas Campus for a lunch with professional faculty and classified staff, followed by a tour of the Campus. Chancellor Doré will end his second day with a tour of the Fab Lab and a roundtable with business leaders.

Note: My office is working with the College Senate and the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership to determine the guest lists for the lunches and breakfast.

As you know, it is impossible to capture every aspect of NOVA, so please know that this is the first time that Chancellor Doré will visit NOVA—not the last. As he has made clear, he wants to stay connected to the system’s 23 colleges, students, faculty and staff. The Chancellor wants your voices to be heard as he focuses on increasing student access and success, and he wants to engage you in the important work of making our colleges central to strengthening our communities and ensuring that all Virginians are prepared with the skills to thrive in the 21st century workplace.

I am excited to welcome Dr. Doré to our remarkable college and share all that makes us boldly NOVA!
