Today is National Walking Day

April 5, 2023 / Get Well

Sponsored by the American Heart Association, National Walking Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday of April. National Walking Day is exactly as it sounds — a day to celebrate one of the easiest ways to be the healthiest version of you. Walking for thirty to sixty minutes per day may sound like it isn’t much, but studies have shown that it can drastically improve your health and even help prevent ailments such as type II diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

Walking is not just for today. Join these other walking events:

  • Register your intention to participate in NOVA Walk Week (Monday, April 17 through  Friday, April 21). Upon registering, you will receive additional guidance.

  • Keep an eye on the Daily Flyer and on your email once you’ve registered for Walk Week. Updates on walks scheduled for your campus or location will be provided.

  • Visit those Cherry Blossom Blooms! The 2023 National Cherry Blossom Festival is March 18 – April 16. View all events.

  • Don’t miss the tulips. They are on their way. Attend the Festival of Spring — Burnside Farms in Nokesville. Tickets are required for this event.

  • Looking Ahead. Spring 2023 MOVE It Outdoors (Saturday Walks/ Hikes in the DMV). Join your colleagues, family and friends in a series of almost free adventures. (You will need to provide your own transportation for the majority of them.) On Saturday mornings, let’s explore a selection of the beautiful walking trails throughout the DMV. Registration is now Open!
