Lyceum Committee hosts Autism Advocates and Authors of “I Will Die on This Hill,” Today at 1
The Annandale Lyceum Committee is hosting the final speakers of the Spring 2023 Semester. Join us to hear from autism advocates Megan Ashburn and Jules Edwards, authors of the book, “I Will Die on This Hill.” Meghan Ashburn, a mother of two autistic boys, and Jules Edwards, an autistic parent, are co-conspirators in the pursuit of disability justice. This event will be held on today at 1 p.m., via Zoom and Prof. Melissa Chabot will moderate the event.
This book explores the rift between autistic advocates and parents of autistic children and encourages them to work towards a common goal. It provides context to dividing issues, and the authors use their experience to illustrate where they’ve messed up, where they’ve got things right, and what they’ve learned along the way.
Meghan Ashburn is an educational consultant, speaker, parent mentor, and co-author of the newly released book, I WIll Die On This Hill. She’s passionate about accessibility, inclusion, and communication rights. Her website, Not An Autism Mom, is loaded with resources to help educators and parents support Autistic children inside and outside the classroom.
Jules Edwards is an Anishinaabe writer, gardener, accountant, and disability justice advocate. She is a co-author of I Will Die On This Hill, and writes as “Autistic, Typing.” Jules’ background includes a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) fellowship, Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) National Training Director Council fellowship, and 2022-23 Wilder Foundation Community Equity Program membership. She works to improve child safety and disability policy.
Please register in advance for this event.
