FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Presentation, April 10

April 7, 2023 / Events

Please join us Monday, April 10 at 7 p.m. for a look inside the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. Data is knowledge, and knowledge is priceless! In law enforcement, knowledge can save lives and bring criminals to justice.

For example, did you know that in 2021 there was $11,902,569 in livestock thefts in the United States? That is almost $4,000,000 less than livestock theft in 2019. Did you know that between 2000 and 2019 California has had almost twice as many active shooter incidents as any other state? Or that businesses open to pedestrian traffic had the highest number of active shooter incidents? All these data are in the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report (UCR)

Since 1935, the FBI has tracked crime to identify trends and provide intelligence to law enforcement decision makers and legislators across the country.

Data is collected from more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies. Outside of general crimes, the UCR collects data on Hate Crimes, Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, Police Use-of-Force, even Law Enforcement Suicide Data.

At this event, three of the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program experts will join our Crime Analysis and Intelligence class (ADJ-163) to explain the inner workings of the UCR program, its uses and the information that fights crime and corruption. All are welcome to join us as we all learn how the FBI collects, analyzes and shares crime data to help solve crimes.
