Volunteers and Pres. Party Still Needed for 3 p.m. Commencement. Please RSVP Today!

April 14, 2023 / Countdown to Commencement

NOVA’s 57th Spring Commencement will be here before you know it! This year’s ceremonies will be held at George Mason’s Eagle Bank Arena on Monday, May 15, at 10 a.m. for grads with last names A through K and at 3 p.m. for grads with last names L through Z. Our speaker for both ceremonies will be Dr. Melissa Lucas, Ph.D., post-doctorate associate in the Child Study Center at Yale School of Medicine (and a NOVA alumna!). For planning purposes, please RSVP to volunteer by today!

We are still in need of volunteers in some critical categories. We have all the faculty marshals we need. Thank you! Now, we need some general volunteers, primarily for the 3 p.m. ceremony; and we still need faculty and staff who wish to be part of the Presidential Party.

Presidential Party:
The Presidential Party consists of faculty and staff who wish simply to attend commencement to support our Nighthawks. They will be directed to a special reserved seating area and will be recognized during the ceremony.

We currently have a total of 35 RSVPs for the Presidential Party, but we need about 35 for each ceremony. Our current count by ceremony is:

  • 10 a.m.: We currently have 20
  • 3 p.m.: We currently have 6
  • Both: We currently have 9

If you are interested in being part of the Presidential Party, please complete the Presidential Party RSVP Form as soon as possible so we can plan enough seating and light refreshments.

Volunteers:
Volunteers help with a variety of important duties, from helping to line-up and direct graduates, acting as ushers to seat family and friends, helping in the robing room, etc. While we initially got a pretty good response for volunteers, many of those who signed up were only able to commit to the 10 a.m. ceremony. We are still in need of at least 40 volunteers for the 3 p.m. ceremony.

  • 10 a.m. (A through K): We have lots of volunteers for 10 a.m. Thank you!
  • 3 p.m. (L through Z): We still really need about 40 volunteers for 3 p.m.

All volunteers and marshals will receive full training

Are you available to Volunteer? If so, please  follow this link to sign up by COB Today! If you have questions, contact Professor Lisa Riggleman-Gross (LRiggleman@nvcc.edu) as soon as possible.

Please join us in celebrating our Nighthawks! This is a monumental day for them, and for us as we watch them take flight! We absolutely guarantee that volunteering for this event and helping our students on this hard-fought day will inspire and energize you!
