Academic Advising Redesign Moving Forward

April 21, 2023 / General NOVA News

NOVA is currently engaged in a process to redesign the current structure of academic advising to address issues confronting student success. Chaired by Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Success, Dr. McKeithen, this committee is designing and recommending strategies and tactics for implementation of a redesigned advising system. Implementing a strong advising model grounded in providing students the information and tools to be successful will result in their success and ultimately institutional success with increased retention, graduation and transfer.

To address the needs of our students and institution, the advising redesign committee was developed to design and implement NOVA’s advising model that will support our approach to holistic student supports. The work of this group will also support our College’s commitment to the following VCCS Opportunity 2027 objective: Develop the knowledge and strengthen the skills of student support leaders and their staff through intentional and strategic professional development, with emphasis on equity and student success; fully utilize Navigate to provide proactive academic advising, early alerts, and a coordinated care network.
