Division of Academic Affairs Seeks Interim AVP, Express Interest by Tuesday, April 25
After 18 years of dedicated service to the college, Barbara Hopkins will be leaving NOVA in June. While we do plan to celebrate Barbara’s contributions to the college community at a later time, we are currently seeking an interim associate vice president of academic affairs to work with Barbara prior to her departure.
The AVP of academic affairs provides leadership and coordination for the development and implementation of instructional credit programs. The AVP works with administrators, faculty and staff at all NOVA campuses, NOVA Online and with the Virginia Community College System staff. This role requires significant analytical thinking and strategic planning to coordinate the many elements of the college’s academic goals. The AVP provides leadership and coordination of academic policy; course and curriculum development, implementation and discontinuance; course and program entry into the student information system; transfer partnerships with four-year institutions, including ADVANCE; credit internships; documentation of academic integrity; specialty academic programs such as honors and study abroad; credit for prior learning; placement and prerequisites; content of the college catalog, schedules of classes and faculty handbook and the general studies degree, UCGS and general education
This role requires: demonstrated knowledge of NOVA’s curriculum development process; ability to collaborate within the college and externally with members of the community; ability to execute a wide range of communication functions and have significant experience in editing, and proofreading; ability to monitor and coordinate several projects simultaneously under strict deadlines; ability to research, analyze, and consolidate complex content into cohesive, clear, straightforward messaging; demonstrated understanding of NOVA campus functions and the responsibilities of faculty; ability to effectively manage a diverse team; demonstrated strong organizational, planning, and time management skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain composure in difficult situations; demonstrated experience representing the college well in external groups, committees, and meetings.
The person selected to fill this interim role must be in a faculty position, hold a minimum of a master’s degree and have significant (five or more years) progressive academic administration experience. Acting pay, in accordance with VCCS policy, will be provided for the duration of this appointment.
