Presidential Party Members Still Needed for 3 p.m. Commencement Ceremony

NOVA’s 57th Spring Commencement will be here before you know it! This year’s ceremonies will be held at George Mason’s Eagle Bank Arena on Monday, May 15, at 10 a.m. for grads with last names A through K and at 3 p.m. for grads with last names L through Z. Our speaker for both ceremonies will be Dr. Melissa Lucas, Ph.D., post-doctorate associate in the Child Study Center at Yale School of Medicine (and a NOVA alumna!).

Because of your great response, we have all the faculty marshals and general volunteers we need for both 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. ceremonies. Thank you! We so appreciate you!

For the final category, we do still need faculty and staff who wish to be part of the Presidential Party.

Presidential Party:
The Presidential Party consists of faculty and staff who wish simply to attend commencement to support our Nighthawks. They will be directed to a special reserved seating area and will be recognized during the ceremony. Regalia is required, so please make sure you have yours if you wish to be a part of the Presidential Party as the deadline to order regalia has passed.

We currently have a total of 35 RSVPs for the Presidential Party, but we need about 35 for each ceremony.

One fun addition this year: There will be a “cheer line” of sorts. As graduates recess out of the stadium, faculty and staff will create a cheer line on each side of the aisle as graduates exit. This is a chance to see their excitement up close and personal, cheer them on and high-five your special students and wish them well one more time! Kind of like “backstage passes” for your favorite rock star.

If you are interested in being part of the Presidential Party, please complete the Presidential Party RSVP Form as soon as possible so we can plan enough seating and light refreshments.

All volunteers and marshals will receive full training

Contact Professor Lisa Riggleman-Gross (LRiggleman@nvcc.edu) with questions.

Please join us in celebrating our Nighthawks! This is a monumental day for them, and for us as we watch them take flight! We absolutely guarantee that volunteering for this event and helping our students on this hard-fought day will inspire and energize you!
