School/Volunteer Leave Benefit: Virginia State Parks Need You
According to an article from the University of Maryland Medical System, the health benefits of volunteering include lower blood pressure, a boost in happiness, improved mental wellbeing and much more. So, consider volunteering to enhance your wellbeing!
Did you know that full-time employees receive 16 hours of school assistance/volunteer leave every year? This leave can be used to:
- Meet with a teacher or administrator of a public or private preschool, elementary school, middle school, or high school concerning your children
- Attend a school function that your school-age child is participating in
- Volunteer as a part of an organized service project sponsored by a community, national, or other service organization
- Assist in the education for your child in state-approved home education curricula, to include required field trips and meeting with local school board officials
You must receive supervisor approval before using school assistance/volunteer leave. When using this leave, please complete the Form 105-041, which can be found in the Forms Library. The form must be signed by the event organizer. If you have any questions or need assistance, please email dataops@nvcc.edu.
