Gilman Scholarship Program Recognizes One of Our Own!

April 27, 2023 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

Academic Affairs and EMSS congratulate Leeza Fernand for her service on the recent selection panel for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship! The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Cultural Affairs (ECA) commended Leeza for her service and expertise. In this role, Leeza reviews applicant essays and recommends qualified recipients for the prestigious merit-based scholarship. Leeza serves as the Gilman Scholarship Advisor at NOVA, where we have had 10 Gilman winners in the past two years.

Leeza currently serves as director of the Community College Initiative (CCI) Program, a Department of State grant administered by ECA. She is also associate director for NOVA’s Office of International Education and Sponsored Programs. These roles require that she work closely with NOVA’s Study Abroad Program. She has been at NOVA since 2014, serving in the Office of International Education and Sponsored Programs.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
