Winding Down, Wrapping Up, Finishing Strong
At this time of the semester, the environment is tense. There are still so many items left to do. Faculty need more time to finish those final learning experiences and to get grades done and submitted. Staff members are responding to urgent requests of every possible nature. Administrators are working to meet current needs; to plan for the college’s future; and to report on past accomplishments (Yay!), as well as address any missteps (Stretch Goals!).
STOP! Breath! Pause.
You have the capacity to see the ending that you want to experience and make moves now that lead you to that desired outcome. Let’s position ourselves to be intentional as we press into the power that we hold to make a real difference for our NOVA Nighthawks. We can’t afford to be derailed. Mindset adjustment is an important step. Yes, this is an unbelievably stressful time, and we can each change our focus to recall the positive this Monday. Savoring and focusing thoughts on positive events is a way to shift and deflect stress.
Ways to Savor the Positive
- Enjoy the moment. Take a pause to appreciate the vibrancy of the here and now. If it helps, take a few deep breaths first. You don’t have to focus on any particular person or thing to feel goodness all around you. Take this moment to deeply experience your life on the spot!
- Put your feelers out. Be more attuned to noticing when something good or positive happens. It could even be a small thing, like someone holding the door open for you! Start to shift your perspective so your senses are sharpened to notice more positive moments.
- Recall a positive and vivid experience. When something good happens to you, take a mental image of it so you can recall it in the future, from the smallest moments, like seeing a beautiful flower to a significant event in your life. Recall them when you need a mental boost or a shot of positivity.
Remember that striving for perfection though tempting is not the goal. Rather than tunneling blindly through tasks, add moments to create and implement a plan that allows your mind and body time to rest and practice happiness.
This Monday, generate many little happy moments to reduce stress, multiply your happiness, and empower you to close out this semester in health. Small moments can have a significant impact on employees and the students we are here to serve.
Remember to harness the power of checking in to enhance the success of your wellness plan.
Use the Monday Campaigns: Weekly Check-Ins
Mindful awareness, accountability, goal setting and tracking progress are evidence-based techniques that enhance the success of a wellness plan. Each week, the Monday Campaigns participants are invited to use the weekly check- Ins (Weekly Check In– May 1st) to help you:
- Remain motivated;
- Reflect on your progress;
- Consider how you will work with your Push Pal to get the most effective results from your wellness experiences; and
- Recommit to your weekly goals.
Turn intentions into actions.
