Important Canvas Course Information
Congratulations on another successful semester teaching our eager NOVA Nighthawks! Before you escape for the summer…or into the summer semester, please be aware of these important Canvas notes to end the term right:
Spring 2023 Courses
The spring 2023 courses will automatically close out for students on May 16. No action is needed by instructors to close courses. Instructors will have courses removed from their Canvas Dashboard on May 22. All past courses are available under the Courses icon from the Global Navigation, and all prior semester courses are listed under Past Enrollments.
Incomplete Process
If a student earns a grade of Incomplete, within 24 hours of posting grades in SIS, a new section in the course called “Incomplete,” into which it adds both you and your student, allowing both you and the student(s) to continue to work in the original course. Only you and the student(s) added to the Incomplete section will have access to the course until the section is closed at the end of the following semester. Assignment availability dates may need to be updated to ensure that your coursework is available to Incomplete students. Assignments provided by textbook publishers may need to be adjusted outside of Canvas. Contact your publisher for more information.
New Changes for Fall 2023 Semester
Starting fall 2023, NOVA will enroll students into their Canvas courses two weeks ahead of the semester start date instead of the week before. The change will enable programs that start early to publish their Canvas courses on schedule. As before, courses will remain invisible to students until published. Instructors should still plan to publish courses no later than three calendar days before the start of class.
