Important Financial Aid Reminders for Summer 2023
As we gear up for the summer term that begins the week of May 16, please take a few minutes to review these important financial aid reminders, and share them with your students. If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
Apply for Summer Aid:
Students may complete the 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any items that may be requested on their NOVAConnect To Do List to be considered for summer financial aid. A tutorial is provided here.
View Anticipated Financial Aid:
Summer financial aid offered before May 28, 2023 (the 12-week-term census) is based on anticipated full-time enrollment. If students enroll in less than 12 eligible credits, their financial aid award may be reduced. To view anticipated financial aid based on current enrollment, students may log in to NOVAConnect and follow the instructions provided.
Summer Pell Grants:
If students received a Federal Pell Grant based on full-time enrollment in fall 2022 and in spring 2023, they must take at least six eligible credits during summer 2023 to potentially receive a summer Federal Pell Grant. A lifetime Federal Pell Grant limit that equates to 12 full-time semesters applies. Also, note that summer grant eligibility is based on enrollment as of May 28; so students should register for all the courses they plan to take during the entire summer term by May 28. Summer courses added on or after May 29 will not increase grant eligibility.
Purchase Books, Supplies and Laptops with Summer Aid:
If anticipated financial aid is more than what students owe for the summer semester, they may use their excess aid to purchase books, supplies or even a laptop through the NOVA Bookstore through July 5, 2023. More information is available here.
Reapply for Aid for 2023-2024:
Students should reapply for financial aid for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year as soon as possible to have their eligibility for grants, loans and work-study opportunities determined for fall 2023. Step-by-step instructions are provided here.
