Your Books. My Books. Send Your Summer Reading Recs. by June 8

May 30, 2023 / Tuesday Topics

This week’s topic is summer reads.

As we turn the corner into June this week, it seemed like a good time to check in on what books are on your summer reading list.

Maybe your next book is a classic that you’re looking to read for the first or fourth time; a new beach-ready novel or well-researched analysis of current global conditions; a volume of poetry or a graphic novel; or maybe it’s the recently released proposed U.S. Department of Education updates to the gainful employment regulations (I can give you a summary and save you the time.)

I hope that you’ll share your summer reads—and maybe even a tip about an amazing local bookstore that you’d recommend for a sunny day road trip visit. Just send your list (and favorite book shop) to PresidentsOffice@nvcc.edu by Thursday, June 8.

I’ll get the list started: I just finished reading Curtis Sittenfeld’s Romantic Comedy, after going to her talk at Sixth & I in April; next up for me are a debut novel, The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer, which I’m listening to while sewing; and We Don’t Know Ourselves: A Personal History of Modern Ireland by Fintan O’Toole, which I bought earlier this spring at Old Town Books in Alexandria (my store recommendation) but never had a chance to start.

Looking forward to getting and sharing your picks—and I’ll send quilted bookmarks to three randomly selected readers!
