Join Us to Bid Farewell to Dana Kauffman: Today at 11:30 a.m., Brault 321
You are invited to join us today at 11:30 a.m. in Brault Building on the Annandale Campus (CH-321) to celebrate Dana Kauffman and wish him well into retirement.
Dana began his service at NOVA as Director of College Government Affairs and Community Relations in 2008. Over his 15 years of dedicated service to NOVA, Dana has worked to strengthen and establish relationships and partnerships with government and policymakers at the local, state and federal levels. He has been instrumental in securing funding and support for Northern Virginia Community College programs and initiatives–most recently $40M in support from the General Assembly to expand our Medical Education Campus and build a new Trades Center at the Manassas Campus, and almost $8M through two rounds of Congressionally Directed Funding grants to support the data center operations, nursing and diesel programs–which have directly and significantly benefited students, faculty and staff.
Dana has also been steadfast in his support of the Northern Virginia Community College Board, always demonstrating the highest level of integrity, care and diligence in this service. Dana has been a force behind-the-scenes in NOVA’s commencement ceremonies, helping to plan these annual celebrations of student success and ensuring the quality of these events matches the amazing achievements of our students.
Prior to his service at NOVA, Dana was a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for three terms. In this capacity, he served as a member of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board of Directors (Metro), Virginia Railway Express Operations Board, and Northern Virginia Transportation Commission for twelve years including service as Chair of all three bodies.
Dana’s commitment to supporting local communities in Northern Virginia has been extraordinary, from his time as an elected official to his service with NOVA. Anyone who knows Dana will tell you he is full of captivating stories and a plethora of knowledge to share.
Outside of his work with the College, Dana enjoys woodworking and building model ships. He has crafted numerous pieces of furniture, including a cradle and rocking horse that he made for his son Ethan (a NOVA graduate, and soon-to-be George Mason graduate!) In his retirement, Dana plans to dive further into his love of woodworking, begin his next model ship project, and spend time with his wife in their cozy West Virginia home.
We have appreciated Dana’s work on behalf of the College, and we wish him all the best in his retirement.
