Learn About the Why’s and How’s of Digital Accessibility
When we talk about digital accessibility, we are talking about designing content so it can be used by a wide audience and accessed by all users. Digital accessibility needs to be practiced when we create content for websites, courses and documents. When we create content with accessibility in mind, all people benefit.
For example, adding edited captions to audio is not only helpful to someone who has permanent hearing loss, but it is helpful for those that may have situational hearing loss due to age or illness (think hearing aids or ear infection), to someone who may benefit from transcripts to help with processing (think of people with ADHD or a processing disorder) and those same captions may help someone who needs to review content while commuting on a bus to work or while their family is sleeping.
Permanent, temporary and situational disabilities, and even those that are not facing any current challenge, all benefit from your planning ahead for accessible content. Adding and editing captions is just one place to start.
