New LASS Dean Announced for Manassas Campus

June 22, 2023 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

The Manassas Campus will welcome Dr. James (Jay) Gillispie as the new language, arts and social sciences (LASS) dean this fall. This selection follows an extensive process that included both college-wide and campus components. Applicants were first screened by a college-wide search committee. Finalists then visited the campuses for a full day and also interviewed with Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Eun-Woo Chang. Feedback gathered from all aspects of this process was considered.

For the past eight years, Dr. Gillispie has served as the dean for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Laurel Ridge (formerly Lord Fairfax) Community College. Prior to that role, he served in various roles at Sampson Community College, including as vice president of academic affairs, chair of the college transfer program and as a professor of history. He is the author of two books: Andersonvilles of the North and Cape Fear Confederates. Dr. Gillispie holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Mississippi and both an MS and BA in history from James Madison University. The Manassas Campus is excited to welcome Dr. Gillispie on July 1.

Dr. Lynch wants to express gratitude to all of those who contributed time and talent to the search process.
