Amanda Wilder Appointed as Acting Assoc. Director of Federal Relations

July 25, 2023 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

While the search for the new director of government relations continues, the Office of the President has announced the appointment of Amanda Wilder to serve as acting associate director of federal relations. Having been at NOVA for most of a decade, Wilder has represented her colleagues with distinction at our most recent commencements.

Her breadth of understanding of NOVA and its students, and her collaborations with our faculty and staff will bring much to her ability to advocate for NOVA in this interim role. Working as a counselor with our students at all phases of their engagement with NOVA from high school through college graduation, Ms. Wilder was twice elected by her peers as chair of the College Senate and has also served as chair of the College Staff Forum Council. In these roles, she has proven adept at balancing the interests of constituent groups, navigating the path to consensus and articulating, advocating for and achieving desired outcomes.

She holds a master’s in counseling psychology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) and a bachelor’s in biology from Rhodes College (Tenn.).

Ms. Wilder will report to Chief of Staff Tykesha Myrick while the search for the director of government relations is ongoing. We anticipate filling this director position by early fall. The new director will then conduct a full search for the associate director. (Should she be interested, Ms. Wilder will be eligible to apply.)

We are grateful to Amanda Wilder for taking on this important and impactful interim role and know you will enjoy working with her in advocacy for NOVA.
