August 16, 2023 / Tech Notes & Training

At an organization the size of NOVA, it is critical that we all do our part to avoid falling prey to scammers trying to find a way into our electronic systems. We must protect ourselves and the College from phishing emails sent by those with malicious intent. See below for resources to help you learn to recognize suspicious messages and what to do when you see one.

How do I identify a phishing email? Whenever you see a message calling for immediate action take a moment, pause and look carefully at the message. Are you sure it’s real? Slow down and be on guard. Click here to learn some clues about spotting phishing messages.

What do I do? Report it! Use the Outlook Report Message Button located on the message Ribbon to Report Suspicious Email. The Report Message add-in works with Outlook to allow you to report suspicious messages to Microsoft as well as manage how your Microsoft 365 email account treats the messages. Reporting suspicious messages with the Report Message Button builds and improves Microsoft’s spam filters. Please read this article to become better informed.
