Two Vital Committees Seeking New Members
As your new College Senate Chair, I had the opportunity to introduce myself at yesterday’s Convocation. In follow up, I did want to invite members of the NOVA community to express their interest in two very important College committees.
There are specific spots open that you might qualify for, and if you do and are interested, please complete the Google Form here to self-nominate for a committee. If you can find a spot on both committees, feel free to nominate yourself for both. The College Senate or the Committee on Committees of the College Senate will do its best to take the names and plug them in to the open spots.
Please note: if you are a College Senator, you cannot be on either of these two committees. However, if you are a member of a forum council, you can be on one of the two committees.
Here’s a short primer on the two committees:
- Instructional and Student Services Committee (ISSC): all things students and instruction.
- Personnel Services Committee (PSC): all things employment at NOVA.
Did I oversimplify there? Yes. See below for more information. The College Forum Constitution and Bylaws is the ultimate resource. (See it on NOVAnet.)
Complete this form to apply for a spot on the ISSC or PSC committees. It’s real easy!
Again, these Committees are important! The best way to have a voice and to learn about NOVA is to join Committees like these. Generally, the Committees meet once a month, and the Committees choose their own officers. If you have questions, please reach out to me: jlechelt@nvcc.edu.
More info on the ISSC:

- To study, gather information, conduct discussions, and otherwise survey the intellectual and/or student environment, academic standards, and teaching-learning conditions in the College.
- To discharge such other duties as may be assigned to it by the College.
The Personnel Services Committee has the following duties:
- To receive proposals from the College Senate, Forum Councils, working groups, and the College community and to make recommendations to the College Senate concerning matters pertaining to the welfare of the faculty (teaching, professional and administrative) and classified staff of the College.
- To study, gather information, conduct discussions, and otherwise survey the environment relating to this charge.
- To discharge such other duties as may be delegated to it by the College.
Looking forward to working with you this year!
