AL Art History Students Published in Google Arts and Culture

In cooperation with ARCE (American Research Center in Egypt), Art History Instructor Sarah Liberatore had students in her Fall 2022 Art History-101 course create digital exhibits based on materials in the ARCE Conservation Archives. The ARCE Archives Digitization and Publication Project (ADPP) has three major objectives:

  • digitization, description and publication of ARCE’s Conservation Archive;
  • improved website functionality to expand access and improve dissemination of archival content and
  • promotion of digital humanities in the classroom through collaborative skills.

Using the archives, and working in pairs, the students built stories (10-15 slides of images and text) around a central theme, for possible publication to Google Arts and Culture. The students developed visual and textual analysis skills and learned about basic exhibit design, process writing and public presentation skills.

In May 2023, eight students from the course had their stories approved and published to the Google Arts and Culture site. Find their stories here:

If you would like to adopt the project for your class, please reach out to SLiberatore@nvcc.edu as ARCE will be offering workshops and trainings later this fall.
