First College Senate Meeting Highlights
Colleagues. This is your friendly neighborhood College Senate Chair, Jack Lechelt. The College Senate had its first meeting on Thursday, August 24. Access the information the Senators had in advance of the meeting, referred to as “the packet” on NOVAnet. The recording of the meeting is also available on the College Senate NOVAnet site as well. Just scroll down to “Previously Recorded Meetings,” on the right side of the page. The meeting included a brief orientation on the College Forum structure and Robert’s Rules of Order. You can find the Google Slides for that presentation. Minutes aren’t available yet, but they will be by the next meeting.
Among the highlights of the meeting:
First, the Senate elected a new Vice Chair, Professor John Sound of the Manassas Campus!
Second, Finance and Administration Vice President John Ferrari and Associate Vice President Bridget Johnson presented involving changes to the campus budget offices over the next year. They provided a handout for the meeting, and it’s included in the packet and available here. Senators had lots of questions about the policy, and I have heard from people who are concerned with diminished services for students, particularly during busy times. They made clear they will work hard to make sure a centralized Business Office is responsive to student needs. The senate did not take a position on the issue. If anyone has opinions on this issue or wants more information, you should reach out to your Forum Council Members or College Senators. As always, you can reach out to me: jlechelt@nvcc.edu.
The next senate meeting is Thursday, September 21, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
