Elevate Your Skills with Oct. Workshops to Teach Online
Regular and substantive interaction is the legal federal requirement that distinguishes the status of courses between distance education and correspondence courses. Correspondence courses are not eligible for financial aid and institutions risk losing access to student financial aid if found to be out of compliance. Facilitating online discussions and providing feedback on students’ coursework are two essential components of substantive interaction, the new regulation on distance education implemented by the U.S. Department of Education since July 2021. To help faculty and support NOVA’s compliance with the federal requirement, we will offer the following two workshops in the fall semester. While these workshops are primarily intended for faculty who are teaching asynchronous online courses, faculty teaching hybrid courses or synchronous courses can also benefit from these professional learning opportunities.
- Effectively Facilitating Online Discussions, October 2 – 8
- Providing Quality Feedback for Online Learners, October 16 – 22
The workshops are delivered online asynchronously in Canvas, and you can learn anywhere anytime to complete learning activities and assessments by the due dates based on your personal schedule. You can register at GSMU by selecting Online Teaching in the navigation links. Questions or help? Please email Hong Wang at hwang@nvcc.edu.
