VCCA Conference to Feature Dr. David Doré and Panel of VCCS Presidents
The Virginia Community Colleges Association (VCCA) proudly announces its 39th Annual Conference at the Omni Hotel in Richmond from Wednesday, September 27 through Friday, September 29. Each year, the VCCA sponsors a regional conference focusing on the professional development of over 200 members, including college administrators, faculty and staff, from all 25 agencies within the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
This year’s conference, aptly titled VCCA: The Heartbeat of Virginia, will open with welcoming remarks from Dr. Van Wilson, president of Brightpoint Community College, followed by a robust agenda of concurrent sessions, workshops and other networking activities. Over the three days, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of discussions, including two highlight events: a Town Hall with VCCS Chancellor Dr. David Doré, and a panel discussion with 14 VCCS college presidents.
Chancellor Doré, since his appointment in April 2023, has shared his vision for the VCCS and will present on his action plan and encourage members on how they can mobilize efforts to expand opportunities within the Commonwealth’s Community Colleges. The Presidents Panel will convey their support of the Chancellor’s plan as they explore their views on the role of post-secondary institutions in this modern era.
“We are privileged to have Chancellor Doré and so many of our community college presidents offer their insights and share their perspectives,” said VCCA President, Dr. Donna Minnich. “In addition to the open sessions, our members will participate in a Q&A with all 14 presidents; an unprecedented opportunity for discourse, that outside this forum would likely never be possible for our VCCS colleagues. Against the beautiful backdrop of the Omni Hotel, we anticipate this being a very special experience for our members, educators and speakers to mutually share their knowledge, interests, questions and concerns.”
About the VCCA
The Virginia Community Colleges Association (VCCA) is the longest-serving professional development association in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The association’s members–faculty, staff and administrators–provide a strong, unified voice in support of the VCCS mission, programs and services. In addition to taking an active role in the identification and examination of changing needs in the field of post-secondary education, the VCCA is an agent for professional development, sponsoring small and large group events designed to increase one’s knowledge and improve one’s skills, that help strengthen the organization as a whole and ultimately lead to ensuring student success.
The VCCA and VCCS work in partnership, sharing the same primary function–to educate those who walk through our doors. Our membership is open to community college faculty, staff, administrative faculty, professional faculty, alumni, board members and friends of the VCCS.
