Mental Health First Aid Training (In person. Two Days, All Day)
Thursday and Friday, Sept. 14 and 15, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training and certification program that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse issues. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to an individual.
Location: 3922 Pender Drive, Fairfax VA 22030 Room 149 (You must register in advance.)

safeTALK Training: Suicide Prevention Course (4 Hours)
Thursday, Oct. 12, 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
safeTALK was designed by LivingWorks Education and is a half-day workshop that trains community members to recognize persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to intervention resources. In this way, safeTALK is a complement to the skills of suicide intervention caregivers such as those who have attended the two-day ASIST workshop. safeTALK enables the ability to train participants in a half day to be safeTALK-trained alert helpers regardless of prior training or experience.
Location: Training will take place at 3922 Pender Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030 Room 149

ASIST Training: Suicide Prevention In-Depth Training (Two Days, All Day) (Registration information and link to come)
Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3, 2023 (Employees)
3922 Pender Drive, Fairfax VA 22030 (Pender 4) Room 121

It is a 2-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed to help caregivers recognize risk for suicide, intervene to prevent immediate harm and help persons at risk participate in planning for safety whenever possible.  Just as CPR skills make physical first aid possible, ASIST teaches the skills used in suicide prevention first aid.

Because of the generous support of the Virginia Department of Health’s Division of Injury and Violence Prevention, this training will be offered at no cost to participants who work in Virginia.  ASIST is typically valued at $275.  All training materials will be provided.
