Constitution Day Speaker: Lisa Sales to Discuss Discrimination, Equal Rights, Sept. 13
The Annandale Campus Lyceum Committee will host the annual Constitution Day presentation on Wednesday, September 13, at 2 p.m. This event will be presented both by Zoom and in-person on the Annandale Campus (CA-321).
Lisa Sales, president of the Virginia Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW), will present “Rooting Out Discrimination, Warrioring for Equal Rights and Why Your Lived Experiences Matter.” She will discuss her experiences advocating for women, both here in Virginia and at the Federal level. Ms. Sales hasbeen at the forefront of advocacy for women’s rights in Virginia for many years. Recognizing there is a link between the lack of equality for women and the sexual violence perpetrated against them propelled her onto the leadership team of the VAratifyERA campaign. Ms. Sales is now an Advisory Council Member for the national ERA Coalition, which seeks to ensure the Equal Rights Amendment is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
Virginia NOW is the grassroots arm of the women’s movement in Virginia, with more than 3,500 members and supporters throughout the Commonwealth. Under her leadership, the Virginia NOW Law Audit Project (VLAP), was created to review the Virginia Constitution, state statutes and administrative code. The purpose is to identify instances of sex/gender discrimination and make recommendations for the use of gender-neutral terms.
It is not necessary to register to attend in-person, however, please register here to attend by Zoom.
