Advising Redesign Plan: APPROVED!

September 14, 2023 / General NOVA News

Welcome back to another academic year!  We are excited to start the year with some great news! On behalf of the Advising Redesign Steering Committee and the different subgroups, councils, offices, departments and faculty/staff that worked to develop this plan, we are pleased to officially announce that Administrative Council approved the Advising Redesign Plan on Tuesday, August 29, 2023!

The Advising Redesign Plan supports NOVA’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring Excellence: A Bold Blueprint for Student Success, by aligning advising services to the educational outcomes of Access, Retention, Completion, Transfer and Employment. The advising plan seeks to close achievement gaps by ensuring that all students have access to quality academic advising and related support services throughout their enrollment.

The plan focuses on the “student experience” and identifies the specific phases/stages and milestones in the students’ educational journey and the interactions with the College that can make a difference in student achievement toward their goals.

Using the conceptual framework of Completion By Design, the Loss Momentum Framework© (LMF) represents a critical component of students’ educational experience in four phases that are universal to almost every student’s college experience. Learn more about the Loss/Momentum Framework and how the process has transformed the student’s experience at other institutions.

You can read and review the Advising Redesign Plan on the Student Affairs NOVAnet site. We all have social capital [i.e. knowledge and experiences] to share with students, and we need you and your support to work together in ways that support our students. We look forward to your participation in the implementation of this important work. If you have questions, please use the Advising Redesign Question form so that we can track, respond and follow up accordingly. We look forward to working with everyone!
