CATE September Speaker Series: Teaching and Learning with AI, Sept. 21
CATE (Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence) is launching a monthly speaker series on various topics focused on teaching and learning. Please join us for the CATE September session on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. to learn about Teaching and Learning with AI.
As artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT become more prevalent, instructors face new questions around academic integrity, authentic assessment, and the role of AI in learning. Join CATE and Packback for a webinar exploring how you can thoughtfully implement AI in your NOVA courses. Topics will include:
- How to modify writing assignments in light of new generative AI capabilities
- Understanding why students use AI and how to have constructive conversations around academic integrity
- Creating authentic assessments that encourage critical thinking and metacognition
This session will focus on current and future impacts of AI on teaching and learning, and include brief introduction to AI tools like Packback for open-ended writing and promoting original student work. Whether you’re curious about AI’s emerging role in higher education or are ready to take action around more responsible AI use in teaching and learning, this webinar will provide perspective and practical strategies. Register here.
CATE is a resource for faculty to connect with one another and with departments across the College to support effective teaching practices and learning engagement with NOVA students. CATE will seek to stimulate intellectual curiosity, technical competency, pedagogical inquiry and shared learning, thereby building community and improving teaching, inside and outside the classroom.
