**Stay Safe—-Watch the weather.**

Dress appropriately when exercising outdoors (i.e., rain gear, sturdy footwear, appropriate layers). If necessary for your safety, consider moving your walk indoors. Indoor activity options include:

  • Walking through the halls and up and down stairs at work.
  • Visiting a mall for an energetic stroll while checking out the latest fall fashions.
  • Using indoor exercise equipment (treadmill, bike or elliptical, etc.).
  • Log on for a fun virtual class. AARP has many free options.
  • NOVA’s Recreation Department is pleased to bring back Zumba, Talk Tuesdays, Mediation, Yoga and Fitness Friday sessions!  There is something for every day of the work week for all members of the NOVA community (employees and students). Please register in advance and share the links. Looking forward to seeing you on Zoom!

Day 1-Today's Walker Wisdom: Practice Safety. Bulleted list: Wear appropriate footwear to reduce the risk of blisters or shin splints; Drink plenty of fluids before< during and after your walk; Wear sunglasses, sunscreen and consider a long-sleeved shirt and a hat to avoid sunburn; Choose a route and pace that is appropriate for your fitness level. Warm up and cool down with a slow, gentle pace to ease in and out of your exercise session; See your doctor for a medical check-up before embarking on any new fitness program, particularly if you are over 40 years old or haven't exercised in a long time.
