Free Latin Dance Lesson at AL Campus, Oct. 4!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, with support from Micron, is hosting a Hispanic Heritage Month Dance Party on the Alexandria Campus on Wednesday, October 4, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. This event will feature Azúcar, the premier Latin Dance Club at George Mason University. Known for their variety of Latin dance styles, Azúcar provides more than just dance lessons and performances, but also a sense of community and belonging, too. Watch some of their videos on their website here.
Although dance parties are fun in and of themselves, this event also seeks to provide a cultural reimagining for our NOVA students. University Transfer & Initiatives Director, Jen Nelson, will be hosting a table for students who may find a cultural connection to Azúcar, which may inspire them to find a future at Mason. Abbey Jones, associate director of specialty programs, such as the study abroad and honors programs, will also be tabling and offering students resources about opportunities for cultural connection. This partnership between the Office of DEI and Academic Affairs is intentional. We want to help students find their best possible futures, and we hope that some of our students may find a cultural connection to Mason through this event.
Come support this event and learn a few new moves while you’re at it! This event is free and open to all NOVA students, staff, faculty and the general public, dancers and non-dancers alike. We will be dancing (or watching) in the AFA Building Basketball Court. Light refreshments will be provided.
