Nominate Faculty and Classified Staff Emeritus by Nov. 17

The call for nominations for faculty and classified staff emeritus status is now open. To be eligible to be nominated for emeritus status, an employee must have retired from Northern Virginia Community College on or before October 31, 2023 after a minimum of five years of full-time service to the College and a minimum of ten years of service in the Virginia Community College System, and must have made meritorious and significant contributions to the College and/or the VCCS. Generally, teaching faculty must hold the rank of associate professor or professor.

Please submit Form 105-152 for all categories of retired employees. Retired employees nominated for emeritus status will be reviewed by the ad hoc Emeritus Committee appointed by the president. All nominations recommended by the ad hoc Emeritus Committee will be sent to the College Board in January 2024 for final approval.

The following is a list of privileges to accompany emeritus status:

  • A plaque acknowledging emeritus status.
  • Employee name listed in the faculty and staff emeritus section of the College Catalog. 
  • Invitation to attend special events, concerts, presentations and lectures sponsored by the College.
  • Eligibility for the faculty/staff discount at College bookstores when presenting the NOVA Emeritus ID card.
  • Parking privileges at all NOVA campuses.
  • Selected College publications.

In addition, holders of professor emeritus and administrative/professional faculty emeritus status may participate in the academic procession at commencement and will march at the head of the faculty.
