Enhance Your Course and Engage Your Students Using Metaverse, Workshop: Oct. 10

October 9, 2023 / Tech Notes & Training

Are you looking for alternative ways to engage your students? Virtual worlds provide an immersive 3D environment that many instructors in higher education are using with their students as an exciting teaching tool. NOVA has a dedicated region in a virtual world called Second Life (SL). SL has evolved considerably over the years, and this workshop will introduce not only NOVA’s region, but also several additional educational regions to consider for your courses. Imagine exploring an interactive Globe Theater set in Shakespearean England, walking through Peru’s Machu Picchu or even visiting the Vordun Art Museum in Munich, Germany. Students can explore a variety of disciplines and even access virtual libraries complete with live help — at any time, from any place.

NOVA’s SL region includes more than 20 educational activities to enhance student learning. This virtual workshop will briefly cover the region’s current activities and explain how to incorporate them into your class right away. Several NOVA instructors who use the platform will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions.

NOVA’s SL region currently has activities for biology, geology, language, healthcare, art and more! Help is available via tutorials, handouts and videos, as well as a thriving virtual education community. For a list of NOVA’s SL resources, please visit here.

The virtual workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 10, at 3 p.m. Register and get the Zoom link here.
