November 10, 2023 / Get Well

CommonHealth newsletter template: Black band: CommonHealth Weekly Wellnote commonhealth dot virginia dot gov with the CommonHealth rainbow swoop. Center panel: Walk with a buddy: Part 1 of the Turkey Trot Mind Body Challenge. Walking with a buddy makes your walks more fun and motivates you to get out and walk every day. You'll get an accountability partner that helps you reach your step goals, while both you and your friend will see improved heart health, stronger bones, and better balance. In addition to getting healthier, walking makes you feel happier, which can help you feel a closer connection to friends and family. This week's bonus challenge is to find a walking partner (or two!) to share the benefits. Two cartoon illustrations of a turkey, facing front and with tail feathers spread wide behind the head. Between turkeys is the text: "Didn't sign up for the challenge? It's not too late!" Horizontal line and three blocks of text below: At left: SWEET SURRENDER EVENT PLANNING: Get in touch with your CommonHealth Agency Coordinator (or HR Benefits Administrator) to get us on your event agenda. Did you know sugar inhibits microbial activity, extending the expiration date of canned goods on your shelf? Illustration of small yellow can of fruit cocktail. Center: TURKEY TROT LATE ENTRY. Please click REGISTER NOW to sign up. Instead of completing 25 out of 30 days in November, you can complete any missed days during the first week of December to be included in the prize drawing. All participants will receive a printable No calendar to track their progress, weekly emails, and a link to the exit survey that will serve as entry for a prize drawing. Blue button with white text reading "REGISTER NOW" with an arrow immediately below main text. At right: A LITTLE BIT HEALTHIER THIS WEEK: Be Clean. Be sure to wash your hands before and after you prepare food, before you eat, after using the bathroom, before and after assisting someone who is ill, and after you visit public places. Consider carrying hand sanitizer with you; it can serve as a back-up if you don't have a water source. Illustration: Someone washing their hands at a sink.
