Save the Date for PUP, Jan. 8 and 9: Submit Proposals by Nov. 20
NOVA’s conference on teaching and learning, Power Up your Pedagogy (PUP), will be held January 8 and 9, 2024. The conference will be virtual via Zoom.
Similar to last year, PUP sessions will be held on:
- Monday, January 8, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. for the plenary session and panels
- Tuesday, January 9, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for concurrent sessions
The deadline for submitting a proposal for a PUP concurrent session is Monday, November 20.
This year’s conference theme is Creating a Culture of Kindness and Belonging. The theme examines the importance of consistently providing a sense of belonging and a culture of kindness for students, faculty and staff alike. In this spirit we are looking for proposals that might help Create a Culture of Kindness and Belonging at NOVA among students, faculty and staff. We are currently seeking proposals that showcase specific teaching approaches, assignments and tools that will help instructors in any discipline effectively support student success at NOVA.
All session topics are welcome and will be considered. Possible topics of interest might include:
-
- Teaching Strategies to Foster Belonging in F2F, Virtual or Online Courses
- Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Teaching Practices
- Creative Solutions for Promoting Academic Integrity
- Innovative Tools to Promote Student Engagement
- Authentic Assessments and Assignment Ideas
- Strategies for Effective and Equitable Feedback/Grading
- The Use of OER and Open Pedagogy
Concurrent sessions will be scheduled in 60-minute blocks. Individual presentations planning the use of breakout rooms or other interactivity will be scheduled for 50 minutes. Team presentations will feature two speakers paired up for a joint session, and each speaker will present for 25 minutes. As the conference is virtual, all presentations will be recorded. We invite all NOVA faculty members to submit proposals.
Submit your PUP proposal here. The deadline for submissions is November 20. The review team will notify those who are accepted to present by December 8.
