Monday Campaign: Is Your Winter Meal Plan Seasonal Produce–Friendly?

December 4, 2023 / Get Well

Despite the potentially crop-damaging frigid temperatures and high winds, the winter months can be surprisingly abundant. In fact, much of our most popular produce is actually in season during this chilly time of year. That’s right, apples, beets, broccoli, cabbage, broccoli rabe, brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, celery, citrus fruits, fennel, garlic, leeks, mushrooms, onions, parsnips, pears, pomegranates, sweet potatoes, turnips, rutabagas and radishes all fare pretty well in colder temperatures.

The Monday Campaign invites you to add more seasonal produce to your winter meal planning. Here’s a list of their warmest, most comforting meatless recipes — all of which use seasonal winter produce — to help you and your family stay toasty and healthy through the frosty months.

Check out 15+ Great Winter Farmers Markets in Northern Virginia (funinfairfaxva.com) to find the ingredients to make one or two of these recipes this Monday for a cozy start to the week. Also, consider giving indoor gardening a try!
