NOVA PD, Fx Co. Sheriff to Host Child Safety Seat Install & Inspection, Sat., 9 until 11
The NOVA Police Department, along with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, will host a free child safety seat installation and inspection event on Saturday, December 9, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the Annandale Campus parking lot. Certified child seat technicians, including police officers and deputies, will inspect and install your child safety seats correctly in your vehicle.
These certified technicians install and inspect more than 1,000 child safety seats every year. Surprisingly, they have found that 80% to 90% of child seats brought in for inspection are installed incorrectly.
Virginia law requires that all children up to age 8 be in a child restraint device, which includes a booster seat. The law also states that all rear-facing infant seats must be placed in the back seat of a vehicle. In the event the vehicle does not have a back seat, the rear-facing infant seat may be placed in the front passenger seat only if (a) the vehicle is not equipped with a passenger-side airbag or (b) the passenger-side airbag has been deactivated.
