TimelyCare Services for Employees: Talk to Someone

December 13, 2023 / Get Well

Talking to someone you trust about something upsetting can help you:

  • Sort through the problem.
  • See the situation more clearly.
  • Look at the problem in a new or different way.
  • Release built-up tension.

As the semester ends — and whenever the need arises — use the resources in your TimelyCare emotional emergency kit. One of the most effective ways to work though something is by harnessing the power of talking. Talking to someone trustworthy and knowledgeable provides you with an opportunity to see a problem more clearly and from a different perspective. Additionally, studies consistently show that simply talking about our problems and sharing our emotions with someone we trust can be profoundly healing. In fact, just putting the words together can relieve stress, according to Dr. Dan Siegel, who developed the evidence-based “name it to tame it” strategy. Other benefits of talking it out include strengthening our immune system and reducing symptoms of physical and emotional distress.

Might you benefit from a listening ear, a referral to a much-needed resource or a chance to express any frustrations? TalkNow is available 24/7 for on-demand emotional support. You can talk about anything, from anxiety, grief, relationships and depression to work-related stressors.

So why not take some time to talk to someone?
