FYI: Upcoming Adjustments to Advisement Reports and Transcripts

December 15, 2023 / General NOVA News

To comply with recent changes by the VCCS, NOVA will be making several minor adjustments to the information provided on Advisement Reports and transcripts released by the College.

  • Cumulative vs. Plan GPA:
    • When a degree is awarded, the transcript will include the cumulative GPA only, rather than both the cumulative and the plan GPA.
    • The plan GPA will be shown on the Advisement Report only to verify that a GPA of at least 2.00 was earned in the courses used to fulfill the specific graduation requirements for that plan.
    • Just a quick reminder that the cumulative GPA is used to determine graduation honors. See the Catalog for more detail.
  • Plan Naming and Numbering Conventions:
    • You might notice some very slight changes to the way plan names are listed in SIS. For example, the name of the plan will be listed first, followed by the type of award (e.g., “Liberal Arts (AA)” rather than the current “AA-Liberal Arts”).
    • Going forward, the numbering convention for new plans will use three digits instead of four (e.g., 620 rather than 6200). If a plan has a specialization, the code will be three digits followed by a dash, plus an additional number (e.g., 620-1 rather than 6201).
    • These changes bring us into alignment with the VCCS and make our internal alphabetical sorting and reporting processes easier.
