As we wrap up one semester, we look forward to the next. Please hold the dates and times below for important back-to-school events next week, including a timely keynote address by and plenary session with Scott Van Pelt, author of The Great Upheaval: Higher Education’s Past, Present, and Uncertain Future. Monday, January 8

  • Spring Faculty Convening (9 a.m. to 11 a.m. via Zoom) featuring a keynote on Rethinking Higher Education Based on Economic and Technology Trends by Scott Van Pelt.
  • Power Up Your Pedagogy (12 p.m. to 4 p.m. via Zoom) featuring a plenary session with Scott Van Pelt followed by presentations by the President’s Sabbatical Awardees and a panel on transfer (1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.).

Tuesday, January 9

  • Power Up Your Pedagogy (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. via Zoom) featuring concurrent sessions from NOVA faculty and staff.

Wednesday, January 10

  • Campus Convenings (Provosts and Deans will send more information.)

Thursday, January 11

  • Academic Affairs Curricular Updates (9 a.m. to 10 a.m. via Zoom).
  • Discipline Group Meeting, scheduled by Discipline Group Chairs, between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Discipline Group Chairs will send out information on time and location/modality.

Keynote Speaker Scott Van Pelt is the co-author, along with Arthur Levine, of The Great Upheaval: Higher Education’s Past, Present, and Uncertain Future. Drawing on trends explored in the book, Scott has presented on the factors shaping the future of higher education to state education systems, faculty associations, and numerous institutions and organizations across North America, with a special focus on the implications that economic and technological changes hold for program design, pedagogy and credentialing.

Over the past 10 years, Scott has held a rich diversity of roles across higher education in areas such as academic advising, admissions, instructional technology and curriculum design. Currently, Scott is the Director of Research and Faculty Affairs at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. In this role, Scott designs programs and initiatives to support faculty success at Penn GSE.
